Field Trips

Great Lakes Science Center offers a great learning experience for your students. Many of our exhibits and programs meet Ohio Learning Content Standards for grades K-12. Learn more about field trips to the Great Lakes Science Center.

Web-based Science Labs

Great Lakes Science Center has teamed up with WVIZ/PBS ideastream to create online science investigations aligned with grades 5-8 Ohio Science Academic Content Standards and designed to facilitate inquiry-based learning.

PSI: Physical Science Investigation

This great free teaching tool is a series of 28 videos focusing on physical science concepts that are challenging to both teach and learn. Each experiment includes lesson plans, additional resources and two types of video: videos using discrepant event demonstrations to help develop students’ scientific and conceptual physics thinking and professional development videos to help teachers better understand the science and inquiry process. Learn more about PSI at www.wviz.org/psi.

LSI: Life Science Investigation

This Emmy Award-nominated documentary-style investigation of key middle grade biology concepts incorporates the themes of invasive species, the health of Lake Erie’s ecosystems, and the potential invasion by Asian Carp. Includes eight video lessons, teacher video, web-based lesson plans, resources and research activities. Learn more about LSI at www.wviz.org/lsi.

PSI and LSI are produced by WVIZ/PBS ideastream in cooperation with Great Lakes Science Center and the SMART consortium. Funding is provided by eTech Ohio.
